Gardens of the Gods: Myth, Magic and Meaning.

Cosmology and values – indeed about the whole order of things as the medieval mind saw it. When you visit the Garden of Versailles you are looking right at something which Louis XIV looked at when he visited it.regarding human potentials A garden can be a metaphor used to convey a mood, a thought, a world view or an ideal, in other words. herbs that work with zoloft for depression Many books could be devoted to using the garden as a metaphor in literature and art. We shall of course touch on this aspect of the subject. First, we will learn about real gardens.

What makes gardens such potentially powerful metaphors is the way in which they bring together nature and art. This combination allows for enormous variations in emphasis, depending on how nature is viewed in particular cultures. Some cultures that live inseparably from nature the concept of a garden can have no meaning, Since a garden is by definition something that is set apart. For some cultures, such as those of ancient China and Japan, a garden is a refinement of nature. A person who lives in the city will most likely view a garden as a place where the lost natural beauty of nature can be found and recreated.

Then again, a garden means one thing to a dweller in an arid desert environment and another thing to someone from a damp and verdant region. By the same token the individual motifs that appear in gardens vary greatly in the meanings attached to them – woods, for example, are traditionally sacred in northern Europe but grim and perilous places in the south. On the other hand, there are certain motifs that appear to have a universal or widely shared meaning that crosses cultural boundaries – the fountain, with its life-giving water, is one example. Some would see these shared symbols as belonging to the store of images inherited by all of humankind and accessible through the ‘collective unconscious’, as the psychologist C. Jung claimed.|Some would view these shared symbols as the collection of symbols inherited by all humankind and available through the ‘collective unconscious’, as the psychologist C.G. Jung believed.|Some people, such as the great psychologist C.G. Jung, believed that these shared symbols are stored images inherited and accessed by all humankind.}G. Jung believed. Ultimately of course anything in a garden can take on the character of a ‘symbol’ if the observer chooses to see it that way: a bee gathering nectar from a flower, the dance of sunlight filtered through foliage, the pattern of freshly fallen autumn leaves on the ground, a spider’s web hung with dew – and an infinite number of other things. “Reading” a garden isn’t easy, and a garden can’t be treated as though it were just words on a page with only one meaning.

A garden is like a good poem, it gives people lots of things to think about and brings our different feelings from different people. Enough shared images and symbols exist either within or across cultures to make possible the existence of a language of gardens – or rather many languages, in fact an almost infinite amount.

Each year more than 20 million Americans, more than 5% of the population, seek treatment for an anxiety condition. These individuals can take any number of pathways to start overcoming anxiety. Let’s discuss some of the main pluses and drawbacks of each form of anxiety treatment generally available.

The most common method treating anxiety is through medications prescribed by a mental health specialist. These medications are typically any one of the benzodiazepine class of drugs, examples of which include Xanax and Ativan. These drugs are effective at alleviating acute anxiety. Unfortunately, they are less effective in treating incessant anxiety conditions. The main disadvantage of benzodiazepines is that they are terribly addicting and have a horrible withdrawal syndrome associated with them. So if you do start on a course of these medications you will have to continue to take them daily to have any effect and you will experience severe withdrawal symptoms if you stop taking them. Consider these drawbacks carefully before beginning.

The next option is to begin therapy with a trained psychotherapist. There are several advantages and disadvantages of this method as well. The first thing about therapy is that it is generally not very effective on its own at alleviating anxiety symptoms. It can help with certain disturbed thinking and can be great for brainstorming but it is also expensive and time consuming. Therapy also is not likely to result in an anxiety cure.

The dirty truth about therapists is most of them, themselves, do not suffer from anxiety conditions. Therefore they have no first hand information about which therapies are most effective for treating the symptoms. They do however undergo a lot of training in order to obtain their license. There are several ways in which therapists could begin to better understand the plight of their patients.

The next treatment option is to check in to a psychiatric center for an extended stay. This type of inpatient treatment can be very helpful if your anxiety is crippling to the point that you are unable to function in life. It can be especially helpful if you are contemplating suicide or harming yourself. The main thrust of inpatient treatment is to teach individuals new coping skills so that they will not consider suicide. In this way the treatment options provided by an inpatient clinic are usually not very precise for dealing with more subtle forms of anxiety.

Most hospitals use the dialectical behavioral model to direct treatment. DBT teaches simple distress management techniques and mindfulness therapy. If you are a severely low functioning human being with a history of suicide attempts or self harm then DBT may be for you. On the other hand, less severe cases will benefit less from this type of therapy.

Finally, in patient treatment can be very expensive. A decent clinic runs at least $750 a day and if you do not have insurance the cost becomes prohibitive. Still if you are close to taking your life and need the immediate intervention then an inpatient psychiatric clinic may be your best bet.

Those are three of the main methods for treating anxiety disorders. If you want to start dealing with anxiety you may want to consider one of these options.

Picture in the morning as you are getting ready to walk out the door for work and you have to change because you’ve already got sweaty palms and have already sweated through your shirt. You very carefully add some padding to the armpits of the new shirt to try to prevent the sweat you have already accumulated from drenching it. You pack a few spares so you can change your shirt later in the day.

The sweating continues as you sit down to eat breakfast. The heat from your coffee mug is giving you sweaty palms and your cup almost slips from you hang, even holding the butter knife can pose a problem. You think that you made a smart choice by choosing not to accept your friends offer to meet you for breakfast as this can be very embarrassing.

Driving to work can even be a hassle as your sweaty hands make it hard for you to keep a good grip on the steering wheel at times. Holding your arms in the air is also fun while you are driving as you try to keep your armpits cool with the A/C. when you get to work, your socks and shoes are sweaty. So what exactly is facial blushing?

In simply terms facial blushing is the reddening of the face. In some people it can also affect the neck, chest and ears. Many things can trigger blushing; however some of the more common cause is emotional stress (i.e. embarrassment, shame, anxiety, etc).

When we experience emotions like stress, anxiety or embarrassment the nerves prompt the blood vessels to open wide, flooding the skin with blood causing the face and surrounded areas to appear red.

When it becomes a problem

Blushing is a very normal part of being human; however for some people it can become excessive and grow into a real problem. Blushing has long been associated with social anxiety and social phobia. If you’re blushing is causing you anxiety, and avoid possible situations that could trigger your blushing them this is a problem.

“For me the biggest challenge I had been when I started to blushing I would get so nervous and anxious about it that it would lead to me blushing even more.”

I want to be straight here. Most people feel shy or nervous in certain social situations. Public speaking or entering a roomful of strangers can cause anxiety in many people. However this kind of common apprehension doesn’t indicate a social phobia. However it can become a problem if you find yourself…

  • Avoiding situations simply because you think you might blush, or
  • Are too embarrassed to eat or drink in public, or
  • It interferes significantly with your daily life including work, education, family and social life.

What are the options to living a normal life?

There are many treatments available to cure facial blushing and social anxiety. There are two main areas you can focus on. There are the physiological treatments like:

  • Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT)
  • Breathing techniques
  • Confronting fears
  • Anxiety management techniques
  • Social skills training
  • Hypnotherapy

Or you can try some of the other alternatives such as:

  • Surgery
  • Drugs

There are many ways and methods you can use to treat facial blushing and you want to use as many of them as possible to ensure your success.

Simply by making some modifications to your lifestyle, such as making small changes to your eating habits and reducing your level of stress can often have a big effect on reducing your blushing.

It is important to treat blushing in as many ways as possible. While you try to treat the symptoms of the skin (blushing) that are most visible and distressing with creams and medication, etc, you should try treating the cause!

If we find and treat the cause, then maybe all the symptoms of blushing need not occur!

Follow these recommendations for better health and better looking skin:

Water – If you work outside, play sport, or do something else physically taxing make sure you drink plenty of water. Since heat relates to vascular dilation (also referred to as flushing) in most people, the blushing and rosacea sufferer needs even more water. Those with undesirable skin conditions should consume between 10 and 12 glasses (3 liters) of icy water per day to cool the face and body and to assist the body in proper excretion of oil, waste, and toxins. The water must be icy cold to help prevent blushing and to reduce it once it has occurred.

Are You Stressed? – Stress is the body’s reaction to a perceived threat. Adrenaline and hormones are released, and the nervous system is activated, sharpening our senses. However this will also cause our pulse to rise, making our muscles tense and our immune system begins to shut down.

Avoid stressful situations. Anger, embarrassment, shyness, fright and anxiety can all result in you blushing. You can combat stress by changing your situation, your attitude toward people and things (we can learn to be positive), and taking the personal time out to have fun and friendship.

What You Eat – What you eat can have positive or negative effect on your blushing. You should avoid stimulants such as coffee, tea, cigarettes, and excessive sugar from sweets and soda. Anything that affects the entire body, brain, and nervous system to awaken it in the morning or stimulate it during the day can easily stimulate the sebaceous glands to secrete more oil that has to leave the body via the pores. Also, stimulants create stress.

Alcohol – It’s best to avoid alcohol or at least minimize alcohol intake. Alcohol is a diuretic; that is, it pushes water out of body cells, causing increased urine production resulting in dehydration. Dehydration causes the skin’s pores to shrink, making them more prone to clogging. Also, alcohol inhibits sleep, causing more fatigue and stress, which lead to more blushing symptoms. If you do drink alcohol, follow it with a big glass of fresh water to help hydrate the body.

Exercise – Is great for stress reduction! It is best to exercise in moderate temperatures: in the early morning during the summer, and during the heat of the day in winter. A simple walk for 15 minutes can sometimes be enough. Another great exercise is swimming.

If you blush easily, you know how embarrassing it can be. While facial blushing is completely normal, for some it seems to happen more often than in others. There is a reason why you blush, and there are several ways to stop and even cure it entirely.

Blushing is a unique response that only affects the blood vessels in the face. Your body release adrenaline when you are embarrassed, which causes the veins in your face to dilate. These veins are the only ones that react this way to embarrassment.

There are two main theories of why we developed facial blushing as a response to embarrassment. The first is based upon upholding social order. When we say or do something we regret socially we show our apology by blushing, thus helping to diffuse the situation.

The other theory is that it simulates a look of rage or anger. In this way blushing is used to protect the ego, or to ensure self preservation.

Regardless of the how and why of blushing, it can be more embarrassing then the original faux pas that caused it. Although the occasional blush can be annoying, it is perfectly normal. For those who blush often, even when not in an embarrassing situation, it can affect everything from social situations to job interviews.

Which Is Treatment Is Right For You?
For some who suffer from constant facial blushing, the cause may not be embarrassment. It may be a side effect of allergies, drug reaction, or menopause. If you believe any of those may be causing you to blush, you will need to see your doctor to eliminate the root cause.

Hypnosis has worked in many cases to alleviate the psychological root of blushing If your blushing is causing you to limit your social interactions or change your life in any way to avoid situations that make you blush, hypnotism may be a good choice for you, make sure to visit a reputable hypnosis therapist.

There are many medications on the market to help combat excessive blushing. There are pills containing beta blockers which have been used successfully to prevent facial blushing. There are also many facial creams that may prevent blushing in some people. They work particularly well for those who suffer from a skin condition such as Rosacea. Some of these come in over the counter supplement form and others can be prescribed by a doctor.

Surgery is also available to stop blushing. Transthoracic sympathectomy is an endoscopic surgery is considered a minor procedure, but there is a risk of complications. In the surgery, nerves that effect the veins in the face are snipped and disabled. Surgery should only be considered for extreme cases and extensive consultation with your doctor is vital.

Facial blushing does not have to continue to embarrass you. There are many treatment options and finding the right one for you only takes a little research.

Rosy cheeks have long been associated with good health and feminine beauty. For some though, persistent facial blushing can be a source of distress. Affecting both men and women; excessive facial blushing can incapacitate a person to the point of social isolation.

Why Do We Blush?

In order to control blushing you first have to understand what it is and why it happens. Blushing is a normal bodily response to embarrassment, stress, shame, even love. When you find yourself in an uncomfortable or confusing situation, the redness starts from the rush of blood the nervous system sends though the body affecting the face and sometimes ears and neck.

Once we are aware that we are blushing, often times the blushing becomes even more intense as we become embarrassed about the blushing! That’s what creates the nasty cycle.

How To Gain Control And Stop The Cycle.

Becoming aware of it and learning about blushing and the causes for it is a good first step to end your excessive blushing. Knowing as much as you can about the physiology of the act can help you learn to deal with each situation as they arise.

Once blushing has begun it is important to keep in control of the situation. Relaxing your shoulders and taking deep controlled breathes is one way to do this. Tell yourself you are in control.

Many people have reported hypnosis as an effective way of ending the stress of their frequent blushing. There are many books and tapes available on the topic of self hypnosis. You can train your body and mind to recognize blushing triggers and then mentally deal with them and greatly reduce the frequency and intensity of your blushes.

Important Factors That Can Have Big Effects

Your diet is a very important factor that many people skip over. Caffeine and alcohol in your diet can contribute to your excessive blushing also. If you find that you tend to flush more after you have consumed any of these products, you may want to cut them out of your diet for a while and see if your problem improves.

There are many ways to deal with your excessive blushing without costly medication and creams. Acceptance is key to overcoming any problem. Sometimes it is as easy as accepting the fact that you are a blusher and make a joke about it when it occurs, say “Oh, here we go again” or when you feel your blush coming on just laugh at yourself and say, “Wow, is my face red!”

Blushing (erythrophobia) can be a devastating condition that affects individuals in social situations. The intense feeling of heat and redness in the face is very embarrassing and can cause sufferers to shy away from showing emotion or getting fully involved in social activities.

There is currently no definitive medical cure or drugs available to tackle the problem of facial blushing unless you consider the dangerous ETS surgery or the many pills and potions sold online for similar or related issues however many have proven ineffective for blushing.

So What Is The Solution?

Is there a more effective and simple cure? Well, first you have to recognise where the problem lies, the condition is mental rather than physical, and it first starts in the mind and then shows up and reacts with physical symptom of the redness in the face, neck and ears.

Since it is a mental problem it has been widely suggested that hypnosis is a definite way forward. Hypnosis works directly with the subconscious mind allowing you to reprogram, so to speak cetain reactions to certain stimuli. Many sufferers have noticed great relief from blushing after using hypnotherapy.

Hypnosis aims to resolve any issues associated with the blushing problem on a subconscious level. Most blushers tend to be modest, self conscious people. They fear what others may think of them. Blushing is often associated with Scopophobia (the fear of being watched or starred at). Hypnosis can alter these views and replace the negative with positive images.

Many therapists suggest using hypnosis as part of a series of therapies rather than relying upon it solely. Hypnosis does not always require an expensive series of visits to a therapist (however one or two training sessions are suggested). Self hypnosis can have a relaxing and beneficial effect if conducted properly and used over a long period to reinforce the new positive mindset.

A Simple Technique You Can Try Now

Here is a simple technique that you can try. Lie down in a quiet, dark room. focus on a spot on the wall or ceiling and really concentrate on it (intensely). After 30 seconds begin to imagine that you eyes are becoming heavy. Allow them to close when ready. Begin to relax all the muscles in your body starting with the feet and work up slowly to the top of the head. Imagine each body part (feet, legs, stomach, chest, head etc) perhaps becoming limp and relaxed.

Spend a number of minutes imagining the body becoming heavy and sinking into the bed and then becoming light and floating. You can deepen the state of relaxation by thinking of a stair case and seeing yourself descending it. Each step relaxes you further.

You may wish to drift off to sleep at this point. Or alternatively, to bring yourself out of the relaxed state, count to ten. With each count imagine that you are becoming more and more alert and at 10 you will open your eyes and be wide awake.

This is a basic method of inducing self hypnosis. Whilst under hypnosis you may begin to replace old negative thoughts with new positive ideas using affirmations and other suggestive tools.
